The ensemble Vocalitas Nova was founded in 2011 by former members of the prestigious Dresdner Kreuzchor and Dresdner Kapellknaben as well as female singers from both of Saxony’s largest cities, Dresden and Leipzig.
Meanwhile, the ensemble, whose rootedness in liturgy and Dresden’s boys’ choirs also affected the program, has established itself successfully among audiences and Dresden’s choir scene alike. The collaboration with conducting students from Dresden’s Schools of Music and Church Music has significantly influenced the development.
The New Sound that emerged from this concept and lent the project its name was soon publicly demonstrated. Directed by Felix Flath, Vocalitas Nova gave their debut in September 2012 in the historically and musically renowned Nikolaikirche in Leipzig. The first concert being a great success, the following two weeks were dedicated to touring Germany.
At the beginning of 2013, Karl Hänsel, former choir prefect of the Kreuzchor and receiver of the Rudolf Mauersberger scholarship, took the musical leadership in his hands. Under his guidance, a CD was produced by Konzerthelden, whose interest in the ensemble had arisen at the founding concert.
After two successful tours through Germany, Vocalitas Nova will perform yet again in September 2014. Scarlatti, Brucker, and Schütz are among the composers whose works will be interpreted. Philipp Büttner, another former choir prefect of the Kreuzchor, was engaged as conductor in early 2014. He has been conducting the men’s ensemble In Voce Veritas since 2009 and was in charge of the rehearsals for this year’s Vocalitas Nova tour.
